FIR Designer Tutorials

The DSP Design Workflow

Learn the DSP design workflow used throughout the FIR Designer software range. Each video explains a different workflow tab, from importing measurements through to exporting finished DSP designs for loudspeakers and audio systems.

Quick workflow overview

FIR Designer Workflow #1: The Import Tab

How to load & adjust measurements for use in filter design

FIR Designer Workflow #2: The Target Tab

How to set the desired magnitude & phase for DSP design

FIR Designer Workflow #3: Gain-Polarity-Delay Tab

Set alignment delay & gain for the target processor (multi-way design in FIR Designer M)

Superseded Workflow Tutorials

These legacy tutorials were created using older software versions and don’t cover all of the latest features. They still provide a useful overview of the DSP design workflow while the new workflow tutorial series is being expanded.

Common Questions

Do I need to watch the DSP design workflow tutorials in order?

The videos follow the normal FIR Designer workflow, so first-time users will get the most benefit by watching them in order. The first workflow video, The Import Tab, also introduces several features used throughout the software that aren’t specific to this tab, including plotting options, user preferences and impedance display.

Where can I find tutorial videos for Eclipse Audio products other than FIR Designer?

The workflow tutorials are based on FIR Designer, but as our other DSP design products (FIR Designer M, FIR Creator EX & FIR Creator) use the same workflow, we don’t provide separate videos for each product.

Not every option shown in the workflow tutorials is available in every product. Also, since FIR Designer offers single-chanel DSP design, it doesn’t include the additional multi-channel functionality built into FIR Designer M (such as import & export of complete systems and separate channel DSP settings). You can experiment with these by downloading a free demo.

If you’re looking for tutorials on our free tools, Averager or SpeakerMeasure, the DSP design workflow videos don’t apply. Instead, refer to the documentation and usage instructions on each product’s page.

Where can I learn about features that aren’t covered in the DSP design workflow tutorials?

The workflow tutorials focus on the core DSP design workflow, demonstrating the main steps involved in designing custom filters and DSP presets from imported measurements. To keep each tutorial concise, they don’t cover every feature or advanced capability available in the software. For more detailed information about advanced features, see the Feature Guides.

The Product Comparison Table is a helpful way to quickly see which features are included in each product.

Where can I see examples of FIR Designer being used to solve real-world DSP problems?

Visit the Project Examples page for practical examples and case studies showing how the FIR Designer software range can be used to solve common loudspeaker and audio system design challenges, including loudspeaker matching, room tuning and crossover optimisation.
