Version 4.3.0 (8 July 2024)
- New: FIR Designer M now has a dark user interface theme available on both macOS and Window. To switch between light and dark themes, in Preferences, change the “Use dark mode” setting and restart the application.
- New: The thickness of plot lines can now set in Preferences, from1 pixel to 10 pixels.
- New: “AFMG SpeakerLab” IIR filter mode. (This mode is an analog filter mode and cannot be used with auditionDSP, nor exported to processors over DTP. It has simple, but not exact, conversion to/from other brands.)
- New: “StormAudio” IIR filter mode.
- Update: FIR latency compensation is now used on the Lab Gruppen DTP window (for export to IPX amplifiers).
- Update: The “Supplementary Responses” window now has optional power normalisation for the combined (multi-way) response.
- Update: When exporting FIR filters from the channel “Export” tab, two additional FIR filter files can be saved at the same time; a minimum-phase variant (with 0 sample delay and the same length as the main FIR filter) and an excess phase variant (with the same delay and length as the main FIR filter). The convolution of these two additional FIR filters matches the magnitude and phase of the main FIR filter. The enable this feature, press Control-H and a checkbox appears, labelled “Also save minimum and excess phase FIRs.”

We’re proud to announce the next major version of FIR Designer M – version 4.
Wondering what happened to version 3? We’re skipping it, to bring FIR Designer M version numbers in line with FIR Designer (which will also have a version 4 available shortly). We plan to have future, major FIR Designer/FIR DesignerM releases in lock step.
What’s new?
- auditionDSP – a realtime application for running and auditioning up to three loudspeaker presets simultaneously. For more details, see auditionDSP.
- The system (fds) file now contains everything. No more channel project files!
- Plot colors are now saved in the System file and can be optionally applied when the file is loaded.
- A contour plot display, in the Supplementary Responses window, for viewing off-axis behaviour of the loudspeaker preset with polar measurements.
- Group delay display in the ‘2nd view’ window.
- A “RAM Audio” IIR filter mode.
- A new DTP window for export to Lab Gruppen IPX series amplifiers.
- Separate binaries for macOS Intel and M series macs.
- A big speedup to underlying computations.

Version 2.6.11 (2 May 2023)

- A new ‘FIR polarity’ checkbox is now available on the channel Export tab. This replaces the ‘Invert FIR at save’ checkbox and the ‘Invert FIR at save’ setting is now transferred to the ‘FIR polarity’ when an older channel project file is loaded.

Version 2.4.0 (7 May 2022)
- New: Parametric, LP and HP variable Q, all-pass, Bessel and shelf IIR filters now have perfect translations between IIR Modes. Q and/or BW is automatically optimised to give an exact response match.
- New: Copy & Paste functionality is now available on most tabs to enable easy transfer of filter table data across FIR Designer and FIR Designer M. Filter lists can only be copied and pasted between like tabs; for example Mag Adjust -> Mag Adjust. Tabs that support copy and paste are Target Mag and Phase, IIR, Mag Adjust, Phase Adjust and Voicing.
- New: The IIR Filters tab and the IIR Reference Editor now each have a BW/Q selector with the filter list table. (There’s now no need to use the Preferences to change between BW and Q for IIR filters). Separate BW/Q settings (for each IIR filter mode) are stored in the channel project files and the system file.
- New: Auto Mag and Auto Phase computation can be optionally paused to reduce program update lag while working IIR, Mag Adjust and Phase Adjust tabs.
- New: Xilica TXT file FIR filter export.
- Update: Lake XP modules can now have 96 kHz output channels (in addition to 12, 24 and 48 kHz). When a channel is set to 96 kHz, the Lake XP maximum FIR filter length drops from 384 taps to 192 taps.
- Update: Import tab delay is now also displayed in mm, feet and inches.

- Load a measurement set for each channel. Measurement sets must be in separate directories; one directory for each channel.
- For plotting and the combined, processed response, channel measurements are matched in the order loaded; which is usually alphabetical. So as long as the LF, MF and HF measurements are in the same order in their directories, they will be plotted together correctly.
- New: Mouse control of filters; frequency, bandwidth/Q and gain. Also mouse control of frequency bands on “Auto Mag” & “Auto Phase” tabs.
- When a filter in the table is highlighted, controls appear on the plot and can be moved by the mouse.
